Public benefits
The aim of Naíscoil Cholmcille is to provide purposeful play for children in their pre-school year (3 - 4) and in our Tús Cinnte programme for 2 - 3 year olds, through a broad based curriculum (DENI), taking into account all aspects of child development and considering the needs of individual children and their families. We work mainly in our
local areas and these have been declared to be areas of social deprivation. This will be done through the Medium of Irish. We promote the Irish Language and use it throughout our sessions with all the children. This is carried out in a very child friendly way and through songs and rhymes especially. We aim to ensure a quality learning environment with safe and secure surroundings and a supportive team of staff and committee. We encourage parents to become involved in their child's time at Naíscoil and we have a parental Involvement Policy which is given to all parents at the beginning of the year. Parents can also become parent helpers/volunteers and are encouraged to do so by staff.
What your organisation does
We have 2 sessions per day. The morning session is for children in their preschool year (3 -5 years old) and it runs from 9am - 12pm Monday - Friday. We provide a warm, safe environment for the children to come and play and learn. We provide equipment and materials for the children to broaden their knowledge and understanding and we also provide
various activities for them to gain new knowledge and understanding and language skills. We do all this through the medium of Irish language and children except that this is their new language in group. Our afternoon group attend from 1 - 3.30 Monday - Wednesday and we have Stay and Play on a Thursday 1 - 2.30 - this is when the parents or guardians come along with their child and play and join in our group activities. Parents enjoy these sessions and get actively involved in their child's play and enjoy listening to their child's new langage skills. Parents also have the opportunity to meet other parents and discuss issues regarding parenting and other organisations/groups/schools available in our local area. Parents that show interest in becoming Parent Helpers or volunteers are helped filling out the various paperwork to send to WHSCT and Access NI for vetting clearance.
