Public benefits

The direct benefits which flow from our objects/purposes include an increased number of people with learning difficulty achieving accredited training and qualifications; improved employability of beneficiaries and enhanced social and financial independence. These benefits are demonstrable through feedback from parents, carers and beneficiaries and

regular independent evaluation of our services. This information is available in our annual report and in periodic reporting to government. There is no harm likely to arise from our objects/purposes. The only private benefit flowing from our purpose is that two of our Trustees currently have children who access our organisation’s services. All beneficiaries, parents and carers apply for services in the same way and therefore the benefit arising to the Trustee is incidental. Also, a private benefit to Trustees may arise from any training the Trustees undertake in areas such as finance, good governance etc. Through this training Trustees may gain skills and experience which are transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and are necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.

What your organisation does

The Orchardville Society is a Company Limited by Guarantee and registered charity that provides a range of accredited training and employment services to young people and adults with learning disability and/or Autistic Spectrum Disorders. Each year around 250 participants take part in structured work placements and accredited training programmes

designed to develop employability skills that will assist our students secure and retain permanent paid employment. The Society also operates a number of social enterprises/supported training units in the Greater Belfast area with the aim of equipping students with relevant and transferable vocational skills and we have developed transitions programmes with a number of special education schools in our area.
