Public benefits

St Mary's Bowling Club provides opportunity for the advance of health via the enjoyment of amateur bowls and benefit to meet socially with others with similar interests. By doing so this club adds to the advancement of citizenship and community development. The benefits are demonstrated by members returning annually year on year and oral feedback

"I wouldn't be out of the house if it wasn't for the bowls." "I just love when the season starts." "When are we going out for our Christmas do." "Why did I not join this club sooner." The club tries to organise two social outing one at Christmas and one in the summer this provides benefit of opportunity to socialise in group that may not otherwise happen. This year the club is planning a visit to the Giants Causeway and meal at the Causeway Hotel. The club is there for anyone in the area to join and prior to the start of the season membership is advertised in local bulletins and an open night is organised to encourage new members and the introduction to indoor bowling. There is no obvious harm identified and if any health & safety issues are obvious to members or trustees these would be rectified. Examples if a tripping hazard is identified or wet floor from spilt tea these are sorted immediately. The club follows the Indoor Irish Association Rule Book and this describes rules of play and minimises any known risks of harm from playing bowls. There is no private benefit that I am aware and the committee have not received any training or other benefit arising from being involved in this club.

What your organisation does

This organisation meets weekly from September to end of March. During this period we play bowls competitively in an indoor charity competition event for which each club in their turn nominate a charity and all donations collected at each match over the year are donated to league treasurer and each club in their turn nominate a charity of their

choice eg cancer research or chest heart and stroke and that charity benefits from our members playing bowls over the year. We also go out for Christmas lunch and one other social event at the end of the year.
