Public benefits

The public benefit flowing from purpose 1 is that individuals suffering from the whole range of eating disorders, their carers and their families will be given the opportunity to come together and support each other by providing information and educational activities in an effort to ensure that such individuals may learn how to better understand

their conditions and may become well as a result of the support offered by the organisation. This benefit will be demonstrated by the number of individuals attending the group's activities, the levels of support offered to clients and the numbers of information sessions provided. It is hoped that wellness can be improved. This will be evidenced by their own contributions to the group and ongoing evaluation and monitoring of individuals associated with the organisation. There is no private benefit and no harm flowing from this purpose but it is currently limited to individuals and families within the area covered by the Northern Trust. The public benefit of purpose 2 is that a facility will be provided for individuals with eating disorder, their carers and families to meet in a safe private non identifiable venue. Individuals and their families will benefit from educational and recreational activities which will improve both the knowledge of an eating disorder and ways to combat this disability. Families will support each other and be supported by experts who will volunteer for the organisation. Carers will be able to meet with other people in a similar situation and learn coping skills and mechanisms from each other. Members will also be able to benefit just by talking to each other, exchanging views and news and participating in recreational activities which will help them to better accept the burdens which eating disorders put on entire families. The benefits will be measured by the number of people using the facilities, numbers attending events, courses or classes, numbers getting involved in recreational activities and ongoing monitoring and evaluation by management committee to ensure that programmes that are offered are having a beneficial outcome to the participants. There is no private benefit to be gained except where individuals gain new knowledge and skills but this is incidental to the work of the group. There is no harm flowing from this purpose except that currently it will be available to families living the the area covered by the Northern Trust. The public benefit of purpose 3 is self explanatory. The group will develop leaflets and pamphlets, update website, attend health fairs, or similar seminars to raise awareness about eating disorders. The public has limited knowledge and understanding about the nature of eating disorders and the impact on individuals, carers and families. The work of Stamp-ED will create a public benefit by raising the profile of these conditions, decreasing the stigma, talking to groups and schools answering questions from the general public and generally being of a real public benefit. This public benefit will be measured by the number of pamphlets created and distributed, the numbers of meetings with professional, the numbers of health fairs visited, the numbers of talks in schools and evaluation of these events which will be conducted by the management committee. There will be no private benefit flowing from this purpose and no harm other than that currently it would be limited to the population covered by the Northern Trust.

What your organisation does

Stamp-ED is a self help group of individuals who suffer from eating disorder, their carers and families. We offer support to any individual in the Northern Trust area who is or who knows someone suffering from any of the wide range of eating disorders. We produce leaflets, posters and pamphlets and have a dedicated website where we post up to

date information. We meet monthly and provide support and advice, encourage confidence and positive self image. We try to increase social integration, self help and peer support to empower individuals to take control of their lives. We signpost to the medical professionals, we give talks in schools, we offer focus groups, expert training and direct assistance from the eating disorder team in the Northern Trust. We support friends and families who have no knowledge of the conditions until the family member becomes involved. We are non judgemental and our mission is to try and help people to understand what is happening to them. We are all volunteers including those professionals who work with our organisation.
