Public benefits
The direct public benefit which flows from this purpose includes that individuals do not suffer through lack of knowledge of their rights and responsibilities or of the services available to them or through an inability to express their needs effectively and equally. The community are provided with awareness sessions to educate public on benefits,
employment rights and money advice. The development of social policies and services are influenced both locally and nationally. These benefits are demonstrated through annual statistics in our Annual Report and progress reports for stakeholders. This includes the number of clients assisted with advice, number of enquiries dealt with, number of forms completed for clients, number of clients represented at Tribunal Appeals, number of advice telephone calls and emails responded to, benefit update and debt advice amounts. The charity's beneficiaries are the whole community. No harm or private benefits arise from our stated purpose. We assist in the provision of a free, independent confidential and impartial service of advice, information and counsel for the public and to assist with the implementation of such advice information and counsel. Advisers provide specialist information and advice on different areas of the law including consumer, employment legislation, social security benefits, money advice, health,housing rights, education, travel,legal,tax, utility,immigration, discrimination, and representation at tribunals. We reduce stress, worry, and empower our clients. We seek to influence public opinion and make representation to and seek to influence governmental and other bodies regarding the development and implementation of appropriate policies. We benefit clients through awareness sessions by educating them on their rights. Our services are available to everyone regardless of race, gender,sexuality, age nationality, disability, or religion who live in the Ards area
What your organisation does
Ards Citizens Advice Bureau provides an advice and information service which is free and open to all. This service is provided through contact via telephone, personal appointment or e-mail. The bureau operates a triage system which ensures that the clients in the greatest need are dealt with quickly.All staff and volunteers have completed CAB's
accredited adviser training programme. We work to provide accurate and up to date information which will empower and enable our service users. We make clear and factual records of each enquiry and after each interview and these are made available to the client if requested.We identify social policy issues arising from enquiries and use this as evidence to reduce client issues in the future
