Purpose: The purpose of Mallusk Community Playgroup is to promote play based learning environments for all children under the statutory school age within the Newtownabbey & Antrim areas. The benefit which flows from this purpose includes increased educational progression through safe and satisfying play based group learning which parents/carers can
become responsible for and become involved in; and to promote the preservation of health for the pupils. This is demonstrated through pupils working in groups having access to resources, events, activities which increases their social interaction and educational attainments which is supported and achieved by the values and principles of Early Years. It also through funding efforts enhances the playgroups links with the local community. This purpose does not lead to harm. The benefit is for children at Mallusk Community Playgroup, (committee members/trustees) are usually also parents at the playgroup which their children attend and hence gain benefit in the same way as all other beneficiaries, the same entry criteria exists for all which is strictly adhered to. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to all beneficiaries.
What your organisation does
Mallusk Community Playgroup is a charity and an educational playgroup based in Mallusk, Newtownabbey which has 26 pupils per year aged between 2 years 10 months, up until a child’s pre-school year. It is the only playgroup/pre-school environment within the Mallusk/Roughfort/Hydepark area. The playgroup is more than an educational establishment it
is a community facility providing an essential service to the local community at an affordable price. The playgroup facilitates families of all communities within the area through providing a childcare facility but also pre-school nursery education and this is offered through extended hours. The facility operates from 9am-1pm, Monday-Friday and the aim is to continually enhance every child's development, self-esteem and confidence in a safe, friendly, play environment. The aim of the playgroup is helping every child develop to their full potential socially, emotionally, with confidence and through learning and provide a sound start for their move into nursery and the primary school setting. We aim to help each child to develop positive social skills, increase their health and well-being and self confidence. We promote every child's right to be strong, resilient and listened to, by creating an environment within the setting that encourages the individual to develop a positive self image. We encourage independence and positive relationships with family, peers and staff. The playgroup is staffed by 2 full time playgroup leaders and 3 part-time staff, all of which are fully qualified in their field. We run alongside the NI Pre-school guidelines.
