Public benefits

The trustees believe that both our purposes satisfy both elements of the public benefit requirement. The direct benefits that flow from purpose one are better public understanding, appreciation, enjoyment of the arts of brass instrument musicianship and brass band playing. These benefits are evidenced through verbal feedback from members of the

public who have heard us play or who have been in audiences attending our public concerts and recitals and from the number of requests that we receive asking us to play. The beneficiaries of purpose one are the general public in Northern Ireland and more particularly in the Northern Ireland district councils of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon and Newry, Mourne and Down. Some private benefit is obtained from this purpose by our musicians in that by regular practice their own expertise in brass instrument playing is enhanced. This regular practice furthers this purpose and the private benefit arising is incidental desirable and reasonable. The private benefit does not outweigh the public benefit. No harm arises from this purpose. The direct benefit that flows from purpose two is the provision of additional finance for charitable purposes in Northern Ireland. This benefit is evidenced in our annual report and accounts, which list the grants and donations made. The beneficiaries of purpose two are the general public in Northern Ireland. No harm arises from this purpose.
