Purpose 1 To advance the art form of dance and its related subjects through the provision of training, dance studio facilities, careers advice, coaching and continuing professional development for dance practitioners and organisations in necessitous circumstances upon terms appropriate to their means and in such other ways as the directors shall
in their absolute discretion determine. Purpose 2 To promote the efficiency and effectiveness of voluntary and community sector dance organisations and independent dance practitioners by the provision and management for such organisations and practitioners of dance studio facilities, office accommodation, conference facilities and the provision of training, skills development, information, resources, advice and other relevant services and/or support. Purpose 3 To encourage appreciation for and participation in the art of dance in all its aspects through the provision of affordable facilities, resources, training and such other services necessary for the creation, production, performance and appreciation of the art form of dance Public Benefit The direct benefits that flow from this purpose include the improved quality of dance activity available to the people of Northern Ireland to encourage the appreciation of and participation in dance which has the following benefits: • Healthier hearts and lungs and stronger muscles and bones to address growing poor physical health; • Greater physical confidence and social interaction skills to address social exclusion and isolation; • Stimulated creativity and imagination to inspire individuals to develop confidence and discover new talents and strengths to help them and their communities thrive; • Greater awareness and understanding of both cultural diversity and human commonalities through being exposed to different styles of dance from around the world; • Stronger social bonds among individuals who share a common experience of dance performance and the expression of common values and community identity through dance; and • An appealing physical activity for those that shy from competitive sport. These benefits are demonstrated through feedback from participants in our programmes of activity. The benefits of dance participation have been recognised in a joint report from Arts Council England, Department of Culture, Media and Sport and the National Health Service in England in their report, Dance and Health: The benefits for people of all ages, among others. The purposes of our charity will not lead to any foreseeable harm. The charity’s beneficiaries are the general public of Northern Ireland who will access the benefits of dance through taking part in the dance activity provided from those who have used our services. The charitable object of Dance Resource Base is the advancement of the arts and in our case exclusively the art form of dance in Northern Ireland. And the way that we do that is by providing a range of affordable facilities, resources and services that encourage, develop and support the provision of and access to dance for all the people of Northern Ireland. Any individual or organisation can avail of those facilities, resources and services so long as it is consistent with the overall objective of the advancement of the art form. In doing so, it is possible that some of the dance practitioners using our services will gain a private benefit to help them deliver better and more accessible dance activity. However, this is not the purpose of our activities and in order to ensure the benefit is delivered to the public, it necessarily needs to be delivered by the quality dance professionals who have accessed our services.
