Public benefits

(i) People living in South Armagh who are experiencing symptoms of mental health problems are provided with a range of opportunities that otherwise would not be available. Through our project these people are ensured better quality support, access to training, education and employment opportunities. This improves their mental and emotional well

being and builds their skills, knowledge, confidence and self esteem. This assists them to play a fuller role within society. (ii) People are supported to develop key basic life skills through our interventions which support their integration into social and community life. People experiencing symptoms of mental health problems are able to develop skills such as communication, dealing with pressure and stress, coping strategies and resilience. These skills and qualities are all important in terms of ensuring that they can integrate fully into wider society. (iii) The general public is made aware of the needs of people who suffer from mental health issues. It helps reduce stigma of mental health, combats negative connotations associated with the illness and ensures that the wider community is better supported to engage with people affected by mental health. By breaking down barriers and busting myths, the wider community are able to support people affected by mental health which in turn ensures their fuller integration into wider society. 1. How is this benefit demonstrated? (i) (a) Placements are provided with employers in the region (b) beneficiaries have structured work placements to avail of (c) beneficiaries can avail of training opportunities (c) beneficiaries have access to services which they are entitled to receive (ii) Beneficiaries are able to lead more independent lives, availing of training and employment opportunities etc (iii) A series of events are held to promote positive mental health within the area, attended by the general public. There is no private benefit or harm.

Our organisation promotes the health and recovery of people experiencing mental health problems and distress within the South Armagh area by: (i) providing services and other forms of support that promote opportunity, choice, independence and equality, including the identification of training, work placement and employment

opportunities; (ii) assisting and supporting their integration into social and community life; (iii) raising awareness among the public about the needs of, and help available to, people experiencing mental health problems.
