Public benefits
The charity’s intended beneficiaries are the people in Northern Ireland and the U.K. who can benefit from its charitable purposes, that is a specific section of the public, mainly but not exclusively people who are mentally ill or have had a mental illness including people with anxiety, emotional distress, panic attacks, substance addiction and
similar conditions. Included in this are members of GROW groups who may be united by a specific condition, similar situation or experience. Public Benefit also includes their families and carers. Anyone who could benefit is also a potential beneficiary. There is a wider benefit to the community and society from having a healthier population. Improved mental health, improved health outcomes and reduced levels of anxiety and stress. This includes enhanced knowledge and understanding by the community and wider general public about mental health issues, see Public Benefit statutory guidance section 4.#1&2. Direct benefit can be demonstrated through questionnaires, the annual report and surveys. It can be measured by level of participation in group activities, lack of relapses, attendance at work as well as feedback from family, friends and health professionals, see Public Benefit guidance 4.2.3. Private benefit flowing from this purpose is incidental and gained by volunteers and trustees through training and acquisition of new skills, knowledge and personal satisfaction.
