Public benefits

Children’s Dreams (“the Association”) intends to benefit children and young people under the age of 18 in Guinea-Bissau and such other countries that may from time to time be identified by the Committee. The Association has not yet commenced its work overseas. The Association has two purposes, namely the prevention and relief of poverty,

suffering and distress and the advancement of education. These will be dealt with below. 1. The advancement of education The direct benefits flowing from the educational work of the Association will be improvements in the educational infrastructure of Guinea-Bissau through the construction of new schools in rural areas of the country. A further benefit will be received through the support and equipping of new and existing schools with equipment, furniture and teaching materials. Access to primary school education is severely limited in Guinea-Bissau. This is in part a consequence of the poverty affecting the country and is also a legacy from the civil war in the country. It is hoped that by improving access, educational opportunities for young people will be improved, thus assisting the development of the country and providing opportunities for young people to escape poverty. Education is also particularly important for young girls as a means to escape forced marriage and to mebrace the opportunities afforded by improved education. 2. The prevention and relief of poverty, suffering and distress The direct benefits flowing from the poverty relief work of the Association will be seen through reductions in hunger through the provision of food, clothing, educational expenses, care and grants to children and young people. It is anticipated that this will also be accompanied by a program of training that will assist young people to develop their vocational skills. In seeking to demonstrate the benefits of the Association’s purposes, it is anticipated that monitoring and evaluation of the Association’s activities will take place through periodic visits to Guinea- Bissau undertaken by its trustees in order to identify the impact of the Association’s work. It is not considered that harm arises from the Association’s poverty relief or educational work. No payments will be made by the beneficiaries and the Association’ support will be provided in a culturally sensitive manner in order to ensure that targeted and necessary support is offered to the beneficiaries. In considering the private benefits arising from the Association’s work, it is acknowledged that incidental private benefits will be received by contractors appointed to construct schools and by any teachers employed within such schools. This is considered a necessary and incidental result of the fulfilment of the Association’s purposes. There are no payments made to the trustees.
