Public benefits

Benefits The beneficiaries of the group are pre-school children of the agreed age (2years 10 months as stipulated by the Regulating Authority the Southern Health & Social Care Trust) regardless of disability, social, religious or ethnic background. The direct benefits which flow to them arise from play and social integration which plays an

important role in the child’s early developmental years and in the transition from preschool to formal school education. These include improvements in a child’s social, physical, creative, emotional and intellectual needs, the provision of facilities for play and learning in an area of high deprivation and poor social economy and a safe, stimulating and child centred environment for all children of the agreed age regardless of disability, social, religious or ethnic background. Wider benefits include assistance to working parents, lone parents and those who would be referred to the facility that are in need of ‘respite care’ or ‘family support’. How these are demonstrated The benefits of preschool education and early intervention are well documented; plans are designed for individual children as required and observations and assessments are carried out to ensure the child’s individual needs are met. Private Benefit As Moyraverty Playgroup operates within a social economy framework, it is a local employer providing employment for approximately 4 people on a part time basis. The ‘private benefit’ to those employed is, however, incidental to the educational purposes and – although not a direct part of our purposes - assists in an area that is noted for its high unemployment and social deprivation. The playgroup also provides an opportunity for students to obtain practical experience in a playgroup setting who are studying for a recognised childcare course which may be of benefit to them privately. Committee training is also made available, but needed to ensure the project is managed effectively and efficiently by those who are responsible for the overall management of the group. Harm There are no harms arising from our purposes. In order to further prevent any harms arising, the playgroup provides training for staff and committee members in First Aid and Child Protection and any other courses that become available and are of benefit to the preschool child. Fees and public accessibility The playgroup endeavours to keep parental fees to a minimum and arrangements for payment can be made on an individual basis as required; the playgroup is designed to take into account individual needs and family circumstances and will work to ensure that these can be met in a way that is of benefit to the child and family. We can provide quality, affordable preschool education on a full or part time basis. Moyraverty Playgroup is a not for profit organisation and after wages and expenditure incurred through running costs of rent, electricity and sundry payments all remaining profits are reinvested into the playgroup for the sole benefit of the children using the facility.
