Public benefits

The direct benefits which flow from purpose A include: Rathcoole is recognised as an area with high unemployment, high benefit dependence, and low educational attainment. It is a Neighbourhood Renewal Area, as set out in the Department for Social Development’s People and Place document, recognising it as an area of high deprivation. The purpose of

Rathcoole Churches Community Group (RCCG) is to address these inequalities and improve the lives of the residents of Rathcoole and its surrounding areas. The benefits are demonstrated through: These benefits are demonstrated through the facilities provided by the Dunanney Centre, the tenant organisations hosted by the centre and the courses and programmes which are delivered from the centre. The direct benefits which flow from purpose B include: The Dunanney Centre is a welcoming, well-respected centre which is accessible to individuals from across the community regardless of their religion, political affiliation, sexuality, gender, race, age, marital status, whether or not they have dependants, whether or not they have a disability. The benefits are demonstrated through: In recent years RCCG, through the Dunanney Centre, has delivered pre-employment programmes, personal development programmes, good relations programmes, education programmes and events for people from across the community. Programmes have targeted a number of issues recognised as below expected standards within Rathcoole. These include unemployment, educational attainment, health and good relations. The direct benefits which flow from purpose C include: The aim of the services delivered and hosted by RCCG is to address the health, education, employment and other social inequalities experienced by the people of Rathcoole and its surrounding areas. We aim to improve community cohesion and increase social capital to support Rathcoole into becoming a healthy, welcoming and happy place to live, work and visit. The benefits are demonstrated through: The Dunanney Centre was opened in 1999 and has a range of meeting and training facilities. It also has office accommodation which are occupied by charities which deliver a range of services to the people of Rathcoole and its surrounding areas. RCCG works with a range of partner organisations to deliver training, events and programmes to the local population. These have included accredited training delivered by Northern Regional College, drug awareness information sessions by FASA, sexual health programmes by Women’s Regional Development Agency (WRDA). Pre-employment and community programmes are also delivered in-house by RCCG. There is no possibility of harm as the result of these purposes of Rathcoole Churches Community Group. The charities beneficiaries are the people of Rathcoole and the surrounding areas, particularly those from greater Newtownabbey. RCCG supports individuals across the community regardless of their religion, political affiliation, sexuality, gender, race, age, marital status, whether or not they have dependants, whether or not they have a disability. The only private benefit flowing from this purpose is that some directors and staff may benefit by attending courses and events delivered or hosted by the Dunanney Centre. This is incidental and necessary because these board and staff members are residents of the local area served by the centre.

What your organisation does

These organisations include Bryson Future Skills, CAB, Early Years and Surestart. By hosting these facilities in a local setting, this removes a significant barrier to residents living within a

Neighbourhood Renewal area, recognised as having significant levels of deprivation. Facilities are also available on a sessional basis where training and one-off programmes are delivered by organisations operating within the area. The Dunanney Centre also delivers a number of personal and community development programmes. Within the last 12 months these have included- Steps to Success- a personal development programme for women; We're the Business- a personal development and employment programme for unemployed young people; Your Community Needs Youth- a Good Relations and Leadership programme for young people. We also deliver progammes which enable the community to enjoy leisure time together ie. Merville Christmas Village.
