Public benefits
To advance of the education of our members, Armagh U3A provides a number of study groups convened by a member with an interest in a particular subject for the benefit of other members. The benefit of each group can be determined by the numbers of people attending and contributing to each group. In the area of advancement of health and saving lives,
Armagh U3A provides opportunities for health promotion in older people and a reduction in social isolation through the interaction with other members in study groups and on outings. To advance the arts, culture, heritage or science, Armagh U3A provides a number of study groups in the arts, culture and heritage. It also organises outings to arts and cultural events and visits to heritage sites. Again the benefit to the public can be measured in the numbers taking part. There is no private benefit or harm flowing from the purposes.
What your organisation does
Armagh U3A achieves its aims through regular general meetings and group activities. The general meetings comprise a speaker with active discussion on topics which have included advice and services to older people, health promotion, history and cultural interest as well as the co-ordination of study group activities. The study groups are wide
ranging in nature and include intellectual, physical, recreational and social activities. At present these groups comprise: Backgammon, Bridge, Computing, Family History, Hill Walking, Intermediate Walking, Languages (French, Irish and Italian), Local History, Out to lunch, Outings (visits to theatres and places of cultural and historical interest), Reading, Reminiscence, Singing, Tai Chi and Wine Appreciation. With an increasing membership the number and nature of group activities is developing each year.
