Public benefits

RSCDG operates to charitable purposes and objectives only, purposes have been designed to consider both the ‘public’, (in this case the Greater Falls geographical area and groups vulnerable to exclusion), the ‘benefit’, relative to the outcome, rationale for the activity, measurement, risk and possibility of harm and incidental benefits. RSCDG’s

charitable purposes, founders, location and scale of facilities have determined the specified section of the public. Benefits which flow from purpose 1 are; (1) Improved and enhanced community development participation and activities resulting in increased positive civic, social, community and family capacity.(2) Increased engagement in community development and planning. The benefits are in direct correlation to growth of community development and community management model in an area of multiple disadvantage.For instance, in 2014,42 beneficiaries engaged in a sub group which improved confidence, skills sets and participation levels, measured via, numerical participation data, attendance, sessional feedback and activities. This is further augmented through project specific pre engagement baseline forms and post engagement forms.The benefits which flow from purpose 2 are; (1) Improved access and uptake of development projects. (2)Decreased vulnerability to engagement in negative community activity. (3) Enhanced skill and capacity attainment of the family unit. (4) Improved health and wellbeing.(5)Increased volunteering. (6) Improved family and neighbourhood relationships.(7)Better generational relationships. (8) Improved environmental awareness and physical landscape.(9) Quality Family support services to improve life choices, pathways and learning. (10) Improved community infrastructure and partnerships. In 2014, 22 volunteers were engaged in volunteering activities across the spectrum of projects assisting increased training accreditation, hours volunteered,CV creation, skills sets, confidence levels and retention levels in services, recorded via, development forms, training undertaken, hours of participation and visioning pack completion. The 2014 Annual Report demonstrates an average 10% rise in uptake across the projects with a 15% rise in Early Years activities. Benefits from Purpose 3 are(1) Respect and multicultural interaction at the local level. (2) Decreased community inertia and local working towards a shared future. Reports cite the 2 new multi-cultural activities founded in culture and sports. Outcome based impact is measured across the organisation. The benefits from Purpose 4 are (1) Enshrined access to services, programmes and facilities for the public as expressed. This purpose is to reiterate the inclusivity of RSCDG and is adhered to in all policy development and measured.RSCDG prepares an annual report, periodic reports and as required by support agencies, also participating in an annual inspection ,reviews impact on local statistics and is evaluated by funding agencies. The trustees of RSCDG are committed to community development enshrining it within more recent health programming, including, focusing on increasing access for marginalised groups and using physical activity provision as a lever for wider benefits. In 2014 more than 90 women per week engaged in a health and physical activity programme (2014 annual report),and facilitates community sports 7 days and nights per week. The trustees ensure that they are aware of, versed in and committed to public benefit and that guidance is reflected in decision making and consider public benefit, charitable purpose and need in development of all projects and programmes. Charitable activities focus on increasing community development, participation and improvement and are undertaken to further our charitable purposes and for the public benefit. RSCDG’s benefits do not give rise to any more than incidental benefit and this benefit is entirely in relation to quality charitable programming.

What your organisation does

RSCDG operate and manage Grosvenor Community Centre as a multi purpose arena including a community allotment site, 3G playing field, play park and recreational centre. The organisation provides Childcare Services encompassing a crèche, playgroup, Afterschools, Summer Scheme and Family Support Programme. RSCDG operates Roden Street Youth Service,

accommodating young people aged 11 - 25 years, including weekend support activities, Summer Intervention work and Youth multi cultural engagement. The organisation is also focused on capacity development related to supporting growth of community initiatives, family capacity and aspirational development. RSCDG, in response to need and inclusion has developed a number of good relations activities primarily focused on family engagement and cultural awareness. Grosvenor Community Centre has also become a key provider of wider health programming with physical activity as a key central and pivotal point. Grosvenor Community Centre is open seven days per week including Monday to Friday until 10.00pm. In practical terms RSCDG provides services to ensure equality of access for a disadvantaged community and those facing or vulnerable to exclusion. This access takes the form of facilities, programmes, support and pathways to community management. RSCDG acts as a foundation point for growth of community initiatives such as in the field of housing and environmental development. The organisation helps to support in particular areas such as community sports through capacity support with the facility becoming a focal point for community health development through physical activity. RSCDG actively engages in relevant partnership drives where aims are reflective of charitable purposes and assists in arenas such as business planning and strategic visioning, enhancing the community development playing field.

Charitable purposes

(1) To sustain leasehold and managerial responsibility of Grosvenor Community Centre as a multi- purpose community managed arena for social, environmental, economic, community and cultural development, and advancement. (2) To improve quality of life in the disadvantaged Greater Falls area through provision of charitable services to support each member of the family unit and disadvantaged individuals. Such services will include, Childcare, Youth Development, Family Support, Group and Individual Capacity Building, health promotion and environmental projects. (3) To foster good relations through direct services supporting minority ethnic community members from the Belfast area, multi-cultural activity provision and cross community development projects. (4) To promote the benefit of individuals within the Greater Falls area without discrimination of sex, sexuality, or of political, religious and other options by promoting support between the groups who aspire to the ethos of the Roden Street Community Development Group.
