Purpose 1: The advancement of education, learning and knowledge The direct benefits which flow from this purpose are the advancement of education and heritage by promoting, sustaining and increasing individual and collective knowledge and understanding as well as preserving and interpreting historical items and documentation. Talking with those

who have availed of the educational services and asking them to evaluate the learning experience can ascertain the benefits. There are no harmful affects resulting from this purpose. The purpose will directly benefit the public who have the opportunity to take advantage of the services, which were provided. No private benefit arises from this purpose. Purpose 2: To promote the value of cultural activity and motivate people at local level to protect and conserve their cultural heritage. The direct benefit which flows from this purpose are the advancement of culture and heritage by preserving and maintaining the traditions of The Fountain area of Londonderry, whose residents could be viewed as a distinctive group in that locality. In addition to this it helps in the advancement of diversity, harmony and equality as it helps create understanding. The benefits can be seen by the promotion and continuation of the activities and events that are seen as being part of that tradition. There are no harmful affects resulting from this purpose. The purpose will directly benefit those who live in The Fountain and the public in general who will be able to sample the rich culture and heritage of that area. No private benefit arises from this purpose. Purpose 3: To provide leisure and recreational facilities for the benefit and enjoyment of the public and in the interests of social welfare. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include the advancement of community development by regenerating communities through physical, social and economic improvements, specifically be providing a centre in an area of social deprivation which can be used for community events. The benefit can be seen in the physical aesthetic changes to the area and by increased community activity taking place in the centre. There are no harmful affects resulting from this purpose. The purpose will directly benefit those who live in The Fountain area of Londonderry, which is an area of deprivation. The purpose will have no private benefit. d) To promote good community relations, including the facilitation of peace building initiatives, between the Fountain and neighbouring communities. The direct benefits, which flow from this purpose, include the advancement of reconciliation, conflict resolution, the promotion of religious harmony, diversity and equality in an area where physical barriers segregate people of differing beliefs and where religious conflict has taken place. These benefits are demonstrated by the number of people who are positively engaging in projects where people from various sections of society work together. In addition to this it is demonstrated by a reduction in sectarian conflict, levels of prejudice and inequality. In trying to address some divisive issues the unintended side affect may be to raise tension between differing groups however to achieve reconciliation these divisive issues must be addressed. The beneficiaries will include residents of The Fountain and surrounding neighbourhoods as well as the public as a whole. There is no private benefit arising from this purpose.

Charitable purposes

a) The advancement of education, learning and knowledge by i) the establishment, maintenance and improvement of a Community Hall and Heritage Centre in the Fountain district of Londonderry for the public exhibition, display and interpretation of documents, books, photographs, maps, artifacts and other items relating to the social, cultural, religious, political and economic history of the Unionist community of the Fountain and of the City of Londonderry (the "area of benefit") and thereby to promote interest in the past, present and future of that community; ii) organising, promoting and presenting educational, artistic and cultural activities, including festivals, performances of music, drama, dance and poetry, film shows and walking tours of the City: iii) carrying out research into the social, cultural, religious, political and economic history, with particular reference to the twentieth century, and current situation of the Unionist community of the Fountain and of the City; b) promote the value of cultural activity and motivate people at local level to protect and conserve their cultural heritage; c) provide leisure and recreational facilities for the benefit and enjoyment of the public and in the interests of social welfare; d) promote good community relations, including the facilitation of peace building initiatives, between the Fountain and neighbouring communities.
