Public benefits

Direct benefits includes the reduction in social isolation, building community capacity, and social inclusion, new friendships, new skills which all impact on promoting positive mental and physical health and well-being. Direct benefits are demonstrated by discussion with individual members – they continue to attend all rehearsals and events, they

respond positively to the musical direction and we receive feedback verbally, through our suggestion box or to our members' only Facebook page after each rehearsal. Inter-relationship conflicts have and will occur in any group and we have policies in place to deal with all situations. Personal competencies and limitations in singing are far outweighed by the self esteem, confidence and personal growth of individuals through participation in the full choir. Private benefits to unintended beneficiaries are friends, carers family and the unknowing public who are likely to be inspired. Attendance at rehearsals and events can provide respite to carers, Friends and family can experience an increased sense of well being from their loved one. Fees charged are minimal and with the sole purpose of paying necessary costs. As individuals we all have changing situations which arise in our lives and we believe in assuring our members that we value their participation more than the money involved. We ensure that all financial transactions are discreet and are very flexible to accommodate all members.

What your organisation does

Antrim Community Choir exists to bring together the voices in our community. Singing together we celebrate our diversity and find our common ground .No audition. Every voice is welcome. The choir meets weekly to learn new songs and practise old ones, working with a professional musical director. In doing so we not only educate ourselves in music,

we also forge a sense of belonging and form new friendships. We support new members and all members especially when times are hard and have a flexible approach in paying 'dues' each week or every month to allow all to attend. We decide on new projects and public performances; these will demonstrate cultural interaction and cooperation to the public. Once these have been chosen we rehearse them every week. We organise fund raising activities such as ballots and activities at local venues and learn from and share learning with other community choirs and community groups. Most importantly we provide a relaxing, inspiring interactive learning time-out, for all our members from all walks of life ,over the age of 18. We meet for two hours every Monday night 7-15pm to 9-15pm in The Community Hall at St. Josephs Centre, Greystone Road Antrim BT41 1JZ, to sing together thus building social capital, reducing isolation and supporting good physical emotional mental health and well-being. We take every opportunity we can to visit other areas and take part in events which bring people together helping to build our confidence and our profile. We hope to begin to redefine the word 'community', which in Northern Ireland is often used to separate and differentiate, while our approach is to Sing, Sing, Sing, build relationships, build confidence and learn new skills, and show what a united community and communities can achieve. Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary things.
