Public benefits
To develop collaborative working through arts and cultural activity between new and existing communities. Benefits: A more professional artistic approach, encouraging the sharing of ideas, fusing genres, and the mainstreaming of migrant artists. By doing this the charity will be delivering on so many of the other key purposes because it will help
to build relationships, trust, develop understanding, challenge perceived ideas of ‘local’ art and music scenes, and break down barriers between new and existing communities. Music and cultural activity have the power to transform, unite, educate, improve wellbeing, stimulate creativity, positivity, and it can be a catalectic force. To act as an ethical, socially responsible, and multicultural not for profit promoters of live music events for the community. Benefits: LMHR are protecting the rights of grass roots artists of all background, but in particular protecting and advising migrant/ethnic artists, by providing high quality and credible events, and managing bookings and events on their behalf. Providing them with advice, knowledge and skills, and setting an example to other promoters. We are encouraging participation in the arts and the inclusion of migrants, ethnic minorities, and refugees. To develop good relations and understanding of the diversity that exists in Northern Ireland. Benefits: Acceptance of the different cultures that reside in NI. It can develop good relations, racial harmony, equality and promote diversity, it challenges myths and stereotypes, and promote cohesion and integration for a shared and better future for all. The charity’s beneficiaries are both the local community who have been educated and exposed to the benefits of a better understanding, and the migrants who will feel more welcome in the community. To challenge racism between new and existing communities in Northern Ireland. Benefits: Establishing boundaries that state that it is not acceptable for racism to exist or flourish. What follows is a confidence that the community gains in standing up and challenging racism in their area. Challenging racism takes courage, and the harm that could come from it is the potential for racists to retaliate, persist or target others. However the benefits far out weigh the harm, because this work is done by working in partnership with the community, and by promoting a positive message and educating people through access to music and art for all. Promote exchanges between different cultural groups within society. Benefits: sharing of ideas, knowledge, skills, and cultures that result in a rich and varied community working together to build a united welcoming inclusive place to live. By working to support statutory and other charity organisations with a similar message but that would not necessarily use the arts to do so, helping them promote their services, supporting their programmes of outreach, activities and advice, and helping to them to engage or connect with hard to reach communities. Benefits through all purposes can be demonstrated in many ways, such as participant, audience and artist feedback. Collecting data from Police reports and support services on reduced hate crime. Evaluation, reports, documenting in film, interviews, case studies, photos, Q&As. Beneficiaries across all purposes include ethnic minorities, refugees, musicians and artists, travellers, the local community by which we mean the people we work with through outreach from areas of deprivation to interface, through to young people, and live music audiences in the general public. For all our purposes there is no private benefit. For all our purposes there is no potential harm, other than the point raised in challenging racism.
