Public benefits
The Trustees believe that our purpose as outlined above satisfies both elements of the public benefit requirement. The charity’s beneficiaries are those people affected by a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis(MS),including their families and carers. The direct benefits which flow from the purpose includes improving the conditions of life for people
affected by MS; improves their ability to cope with the effects of MS; increases the awareness of those suffering from MS to enable them to access appropriate services, treatments and welfare benefits. In addition a contribution is made to research with the ultimate aim of obtaining a cure. These benefits will be evidenced through feedback from members of the group using service evaluation forms. They will also be evidenced through the numbers of members receiving services and the number of members who obtain access to welfare benefits to which they are entitled. The contribution to research can be evidenced through the development of new drugs and treatments. The purposes of the charity will not lead to any harm. The only private benefit gained from this purpose is that the therapists who provide the complementary therapies and physiotherapy receive remuneration from the group for these services but these are incidental and fulfill the purpose of the group.
What your organisation does
The organisation provides the provision of welfare rights advice and information and refers those in need of professional assistance to the relevant agencies; It raises funds through a number of fund raising events to assist in funding the provision of a range of complementary therapies and specialist neuro- physio therapy to members as well as
contributing to research into the management of symptoms of MS. The organisation facilitates the provision of group therapy sessions which allows members to meet on a monthly basis in an informal setting to discuss issues relating to their condition.
