Public benefits
The public benefit flowing from purpose is that residents in Bellaghy and district will be able to participate in a society which is less divided, less sectarian and more inclusive for all the individuals and families living in Bellaghy and district. This will be measured by the number of cross community events, the numbers of individuals and
families from all sides of the community participating in the activities promoted by the organisation. There will be no private benefit flowing from this purpose and no harm. Also a benefit flowing from our purpose is that for the first time in Bellaghy there will be a completely neutral premises so that individuals and groups from all sides of the community will be able to access community premises and facilities which will be welcoming, safe and open to all sections of the community to run events on a single identity or a cross community basis. This should reduce fear, encourage trust, tolerance and reconciliation. There will be not private benefit from this purpose and no harm will flow from it. The public benefit flowing from purpose 3 is that individuals, families and community organisations from all parts of Bellaghy and district will have access to a variety of educational and recreational facilities. The facilities will be open to people with all types of disability and the elderly will be encourage to participate in both education and recreation. This means that people can access courses and fun activities in their own community. This will be measured by evaluation processes, Focus Groups and by the number of people attending. There is no private benefit associated with this purpose and no harm. The public benefit flowing from purpose 4 is that classes, lectures and workshops will be available to people of all ages in Bellaghy and district. This means that local people in an area not well served by public transport can access a range of community development, educational, arts, culture and heritage, seminars and exhibitions close to their own home. These will be of a cross community nature so a further benefit will be that people living in a currently divided community would be encouraged to come communicate, discuss their past and plan their future in a non-threatening and neutral environment. The provision of the proposed purpose built Heaney Centre will benefit all of the community to learn and appreciate the work of Bellaghys most famous Son. The measures will be measured by the numbers of people attending, the numbers participating in outings and events and the enthusiasm for such activities regularly monitored and evaluated by the use of interviews, focus groups and monitoring and evaluation sheets. There is no harm flowing from any of the activities proposed. The public benefit flowing from purpose 5 is that the organisation maintains community allotments. This means that residents of Bellaghy and district have access to their own allotment or can participate in the community garden scheme. The group will encourage families, schools, community organisations, women's groups to access and use these facilities so that people can learn about their environment, they can participate in healthy open air activities, they will be able to grow their own flowers, fruit and vegetables and at the same time promote reconciliation by ensuring that all these activities will be offered right across the community. The benefits will be measured by the uptake of allotments and community garden, the numbers and variety of groups participating, there will also be regular evaluation events where people will have their own input into future proposals for the development of the allotments and community garden. The only private benefit will be the crops/vegetables which individuals/families will be able to take from the allotments but this is ancillary to the main purpose. There is no other private benefit and no harm.
