Public benefits
The committee of Restore Community Group believe that the purposes set out in our constitution meets the public benefits requirement of all our beneficiaries. Purpose (a): Relieve those in need by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage. The direct benefits which emerge from this purpose include
reduced social isolation, opportunities to engage in learning activities suitable to their needs, reduced levels of stress and anxiety and an increase in confidence to integrate with people from different backgrounds and abilities. These benefits are evidenced through the attendance at our craft activities such as watercolour painting, card making, felting, food hygiene and various community development classes and support services run in partnership with Supporting Communities N I and Limavady Borough Council To date all of these activities are free and open to all living within the area of benefit. This purpose does not give rise to any harm which is evidenced from the feedback of the participants. There are no private benefits arising from this purpose. Purpose (b):- Provide facilities in the interest of social welfare for recreation, learning, and counselling with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants. The direct benefits which emerge from this purpose include the reduced levels of acute stress and the necessity to have to be on a long waiting list to get help in a crisis. The provision of a local and accessible Counselling service, Active Listening service and signposting to other agencies who can help, will provide an acute service thus improving the conditions of life for our most vulnerable inhabitants. We have already explained above in section (a) the recreational ongoing classes which are just a sample and will be expanded as we attract more people. This purpose does not give rise to any harm. The beneficiaries of this purpose are those living within the area of benefit. This purpose does not give rise to any harm and there will be no private benefits arising from this purpose. Purpose(c):- Advance education and training and provide information and advice to local inhabitants. The direct benefits which emerge from this purpose include increased access to training opportunities, increased self confidence, the development of new skills, a reduction in isolation, an increase in the possibility of returning to mainstream educational services and improved employability. These benefits have been evidenced through feedback from the participants and the evaluation of projects by tutors and awarding bodies. Our premises are in the town centre and easily accessed by local people. Some of the classes are small and informal which is an advantage to those who would not have the confidence to attend mainstream education facilities. This purpose does not give rise to any harm. The beneficiaries of this purpose are those living within the area of benefit. A private benefit may arise to some of the members of the group who are able to attend some of the courses, i.e. the development of new skills and gaining of qualifications in community development. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the members have the relevant skills needed to provide the best possible services to our local inhabitants. Purpose (d):- Work to help address the cause and relief of poverty for local inhabitants. The direct benefits which emerge from this purpose include relief for those who are experiencing financial hardship, provision of emergency food parcels, reduced levels of stress and anxiety and access to help from other agencies These benefits are evidenced by providing a hub and working in partnership with Compassion, CAP and our local Advice Centre. These benefits are evidenced by the numbers of people we are able to help/signpost to these agencies. This purpose does not give rise to any harm. There are no private benefits arising fro
What your organisation does
Restore Community Group was set up in 2010 to establish a variety of projects in our local area. Members of the group are Christians who wish to provide a community café, which will be open at night. All proceeds from the café will be used to further our aims. Below is an example of some of the services we are already providing or intend to
provide in the future. Alcohol free meeting place for young people open in the evenings Street pastors giving tea and coffee outside pubs/clubs etc Signposting to agencies who can provide help for drug and alcohol addiction Provide a neutral venue for new Support Groups to set up and meet in. Host musical events with opportunities for young local talent Provide space in the café to advertise and sell local art and crafts The premises we are currently operating from was, until we took it over, a derelict building in the town centre of Limavady. It was being used by street drinkers and homeless people who were living rough. The house was in danger of collapse, no running water or electricity. We have spent the last three years renovating and repairing and now have the use of 3 floors providing training rooms, office space, craft room, counselling room, kitchen and bathroom. The final stage is the ground floor which will be the café area. We receive a yearly grant of £2,000 from our local council to help with running costs and obtained a lottery grant to put in an energy efficient heating system. All other monies we have raised ourselves through selling our craft items or from public donations. We do not have a paid worker but hope to employ workers, working with volunteers, to help run the café. The Group work in partnership with Supporting Communities NI, Limavady Community Network, Compassion, CAP, Active Listening, LCDI Advice Clinic and the PSNI.
