What your organisation does
Golden Thread Gallery is Belfast’s leading contemporary art gallery. We use visual arts to open up the past, present and future, by offering the public a contextual experience of visual art of our time. We create opportunities for people to include art in their daily lives and use art as a tool for making life better. We believe that art is for
everybody, and we engage and involve traditionally hard-to-reach audiences through free workshops, educational activities and collaborative community projects that help art enhance everyday life. In our new city-centre venue we strive to be a welcoming, accessible destination. We are an accredited Arts & Disability Access venue. Our annual programme includes: • 7+ major exhibitions • Free events including artist talks and tours • Community participation hub • Creative workshops for all ages & abilities • Artist mentoring Our diverse audiences include families, people from areas of high social deprivation, schools, migrants, refugees and asylum seekers, young people, people with additional needs, Older people aged 65+, and artists and art professionals. GTG is a member of Plus Tate network and Belfast Visual Arts Forum. In 2022 we won a Calouste Gulbenkian Award for Civic Arts Organisations for our work with migrant and refugee communities. In 2025 we were a finalist for Art Fund Museum of the Year. Through our programme we aim to build positive connections within and between communities; create new opportunities for creative skills development, volunteering, mentoring & employment through the visual arts; and improve participants’ confidence, resilience, wellbeing and mental health.
