Public benefits
The Trustees believe that all our purposes satisfy both elements of the public benefit requirement. Purpose 1 The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include improved health outcomes and improved uptake of health appointments. These benefits are demonstrated by the completion of review visit forms which track an individual family’s
“journey of change”. Also feedback questionnaires are completed by families and referrers at the close of support. This purpose does not give rise to any harm. The beneficiaries are families who are experiencing difficulties or suffering stress and who have at least one child under 5 years of age and live in the Carrickfergus Borough Area. Purpose 2 The direct benefits which flow from this purpose are happier, safer children and happier safer homes. The beneficiaries are families who are experiencing difficulties or suffering stress and who have at least one child under 5 years of age and live in the Carrickfergus Borough Area. Purpose 3 The direct benefits which flow from this purpose are that parents and children feel less marginalised. Families make better use of local services and are less isolated and have wider horizons. Purpose 4 The direct benefits which flow from this purpose are families develop improved coping strategies and parents become more confident. Private Benefits A private benefit to volunteers may arise from our mandatory training in values + attitudes, safeguarding children, confidentiality etc. Through the training volunteers gain skills and experience which are transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. A second private benefit to Trustees may arise from our programme of training in good governance, finance etc. Through the training trustees gain skills and experience which are transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. These private benefits are relevant to all our purposes.
What your organisation does
To help give children the best possible start in life, Home-Start East Antrim supports parents as they grow in confidence, strengthens their relationship with their children and widen their links with the local community. Home-Start East Antrim offers a unique service recruiting and training volunteers who are usually parents themselves, to visit
families at home who have at least one child under 5 to offer informal, friendly and confidential support. In addition Home Start East Antrim offers family support group sessions to enable parents and children to come together in a supported community environment and create a local peer support network. In late 2023 Home-Start East Antrim opened a Baby Bank service in Larne. The service collects and distributes donations of good quality used baby and children's items and clothing alongside new essential items such as nappies, toiletries and cot mattresses to local families.
