Public benefits

The purpose of our organisation is to promote the benefit of the people living in Augher and the surrounding rural area by providing or assisting in the provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation, in the interests of social welfare, and with the object of improving the conditions of life for them without distinction of

age, sex, race, political, religious or other opinion. Our particular focus is on the youth of the area but we also benefit the local community by providing social and recreational activities at our Centre which gets people together to enjoy social interaction. Our activities for young people in particular help with their physical fitness, personal development and social interaction. Our programmes are designed with input from our young people so that they engage with the programme and learn more from it. Through our various activities, participants gain new experience and skills and interact with others with similar interests. The social interaction helps to build strong sense of community and participation and adds to a sense of wellbeing which ultimately helps to improve the quality of life of local people. These benefits are demonstrated through numbers using our facilities and activities and participant feedback. There is no private benefit and no potential harm to anyone from the activities run.

What your organisation does

We run youth programmes four nights per week for children and young people from the ages of 5- 25 years. Activities include general games, physical as well as mental, arts and crafts, Irish dancing, cookery and fashion programmes. We have also run different projects and programmes for the teenagers including National Citizenship Service via Youth

Action and set up a Cross-border group to discuss current affairs and identity issues. We also run a summer scheme in the month of July for children and young people aged 5-16 years. We also run a bowls night and a whist drive (card playing) for anybody in the community who wants to come along and is particularly attended by older people in the community.
