Public benefits
We believe our purpose meets the public benefit requirement as follows: (1) Community Development and Social Welfare • Providing practical support to community/voluntary organisations; • Promoting the protection and improvement of the built environment; • Advancing educations and training to increase the physical and intellectual wellbeing of
inhabitants; • Developing the capacity and skills of residents of communities in the area to enable them to participate more fully in society; • Promote social enterprise to improve the lives of those in the community. (2) Advancement of Health • The provision of facilities for recreation and social intervention to improve life for the inhabitants; • Increasing the ability of people to remain independent within the community and improve their overall condition of life by providing opportunities and facilities which encourages people to engage in activities that are socially, physically and mentally rewarding. (3) Relief of Poverty and Those in Need • Provision of sustenance through the provision of grow your own allotments which will allow individuals to grow and eat fresh vegetables which will be low cost; • Signpost people to specialist agencies to provide money management/debt counselling advice to those in poverty or at risk of suffering poverty to help them avoid poverty and manage their finances more appropriately; • Offer training and employment opportunities for long-term unemployed to help improve their employment prospects. Harvesting Health Strabane Limited is focused on health improvement, addressing issues such as obesity and loneliness tackling the wider determinants of poor health. Programmes delivered increase the health awareness of participants and improve access to health services and benefits impacting positively on the health of people. For all of the above benefits our private benefits are incidental. Staff receive a private benefit in the form of a payment in wages which is necessary and incidental in advancing the charity’s purpose. Directors and staff undertake training which develops transferable skills which may enhance their personal opportunities in the labour market. Our beneficiaries are men, women, lone parents, people living with disabilities, young adults, those approaching later life as well as unemployed and long term unemployed. There is no harm flowing from our purposes.
What your organisation does
Harvesting Health Strabane Limited is a not for profit community voluntary organisation and as a Social Enterprise will be a significant contributor to the economy of Strabane. We offer an average of 10 training placements to participants annually as well as engaging volunteers. Our staff, placement participants and volunteers come from a variety
of backgrounds and life circumstances as will our service users. We work with men, women, lone parents, people living with disabilities, young adults, those approaching later life as well as unemployed and long term unemployed. The stated mission of Harvesting Health Strabane Limited is given as: To enhance the quality of life, further health care, encourage a great sense of community spirit and to combat unemployment through job creation in the Western area. To empower individuals and families engage in activities which enhances the health and well being and encourage each to develop resilience to those issues which detract from them being an active citizen.

Charitable purposes
To promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the Local Government District of Strabane and its environs without distinction of age, sex, race, political, religious or other opinion by associating the Statutory Authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to relieve poverty and sickness and provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for the protection of health.
