Public benefits
The direct benefits which flow from purpose 1 are a) the availability of regulated and affordable childcare on a year-round basis upon which families can depend and b) the education of children through both physical and stimulating/creative play activities in an out of school setting. The direct benefits which flow from purpose 2 are a) to
guarantee parents and regulators that staff are fully trained, aware of their roles and responsibilities and demonstrate publicly that the management committee are fully committed to the further education of staff and committee members and b) to be able to participate in any research study undertaken by our regulators in a meaningful way when required. We promote education through play activities which are aimed at enhancing children's social, physical, intellectual, creative and emotional development. Parents from the local communities directly benefit from the service we provide as it enables them to work, train or return to education. We provide a valuable and affordable service which is in constant demand and is evidenced through our waiting lists and attendance register. The staff training records demonstrate their level of capability and certificates of completion are displayed for parents to view. We do not consider that any harm is generated by the existence of Kids Inn as a childcare provider in a deprived rural area. Any harm that might flow is outweighed by the benefit of parents are able to use government tax benefit (e.g. Employers for Childcare voucher scheme) to fund their child's place at Kids Inn. The need and demand for such a service is demonstrated by the startup of privately run after school facilities in the past few years in the area. Kids Inn After School Club is open and promoted to the general public. Kids Inn operates and adheres to an equal opportunities policy in which we aim to ensure our service is accessible to everyone irrespective of their backgrounds. The only private benefit flowing from this purpose is the employment and training opportunities that we provide. As a registered childcare provider with the Western health and Social Care Trust we meet the standards of the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety and have recently been inspected and certified (Sept 2014).
What your organisation does
At Kids Inn we provide out of school care for children aged 4-12 years, from local primary schools. The facility is open during term time and school closures to meet the needs of parents in the locality. Our service is in constant demand, as evidenced through our developing waiting list and our attendance register, which we are required to keep
by our regulating body. At Kids Inn we recognise the importance of play and how it contributes to child development. We provide the children with a varied programme of fun stimulating activities, which are aimed at meeting their individual needs. The play setting is designed with different play areas in order to meet the different stages of child development and the interests of the children. We offer a wide range of structured activities, but also encourage freedom of choice and child led play activities. We also have access to the main hall at the Vale Centre and playing fields which promotes physical play opportunities on a daily basis. Kids Inn is registered with the Western Health and Social Care Trust, therefore we comply with the standards required, which is assessed by annual inspections by the trust. As we are in receipt of public money from OFMDFM for school aged childcare, we have been audited quarterly by PlayBoard on behalf of OFMDFM since 2004. As a member of Playboard, which is the lead agency for the development and promotion of children and young peoples play in Northern Ireland, we have access to training, support and exposure to best practice in the field of childcare.
