Public benefits
Advancement of Arts by making Choral Musical accessible to the public through:- a) regular public performances, eg Jazz festival, Choral Festivals, Charity Functions b) the use of a variety of venues such as theatres, shopping centres, churches schools and open air where the public can hear and learn about choral singing. Choir provides
opportunities for a wide range of people to enjoy and participate in choral singing who otherwise would not have the opportunity, through our performances and by actively encouraging membership of the choir, therefore advancing the art of choral singing. Choir promotes a variety of choral music therefore introducing public to sacred music, blues, traditional, popular, Jazz. The choir has extended the boundaries of choral music locally and has shown the public how the art of choral music can be developed Participation in group also increases individual learning about music particularly, choral music and everything associated with good choral music eg diction, breathing, phrasing and giving them the opportunity to sing. Additional benefits include sense of physical and emotional wellbeing, reduction of social isolation, promotion of social interaction, involvement of families and friends and a sense of achievement from performing to the public. Membership of the choir generally comes from members of the public who have heard the choir perform and from promotion by choir members. As a result, the choir clearly demonstrates that the art of choral singing is available to all, irrespective of age, gender, race, creed and disability. Public benefit also comes from the choir's commitment to supporting charitable organisations by performances for fundraising activities. This is an important aspect of the choir ethos, more recently Cumber Church African Appeal and Renal Support Unit. We have assessed potential harm and no harm flows from the purposes. The Charity’s beneficiaries are the members of the choir and membership is open to the public. Benefits are outlined above and include social interaction, stimulation, health and education. As some of our members are older this is important. Secondary beneficiaries are various charity organisations for whom the choir performs. The only private benefit flowing from this purpose is our Musical Director and this is incidental and necessary because of his skill, knowledge, expertise and ability and he is essential to the existence of the choir. Membership fees can be waived when a member suspends their membership for a period of time due to illness or personal circumstances or in a situation where someone is not in a position to pay the fees due to financial circumstances. This has happened in the past.
