What your organisation does

The KCAG is a voluntary community organisation. The aims of this group is provide the local area with a forum group that bring together all sections of the community to work towards the common goal of developing community participation and social cohesion, thus creating a safer environment for different cultures to mix and progress towards a

Shared future. Much of the work is focused on young people who fall into the category of NEETS – Not in Education, Employment, or Training. We focus on these young people who may be school leavers or young people aged 16 to 24 who are wishing to improve their skills, education, or employability. We therefore assist these young people to gain the correct education so they may reach their desired goals and become the best to their ability. The group also works with older people in the area thus breaking down age barriers and inter-generational perceptions to create a more harmonised community between the young people and more senior residents of Kilcooley. Each year KCAG host festivals and children’s fun days for the residents of Kilcooley and the wider community, we feel it is important to instil a sense of community within Kilcooley and find that festivals and fun days bring people of all ages together to strengthen already existing relationships whilst creating new friendships. The group currently holds a weekly deejaying class for young people to learn the skills of the music industry from mixing and recording to producing tracks, along with delivering various other programmes to act as a diversion from anti-social behaviour. The organisation also holds a weekly youth club and we work with over fifty young people in the area. We also hold regular education classes (Maths, English, Child Protection) which are very well attended. We are also currently engaging young people in a DICE Programme that teaches young people various skills such as arts & crafts, sports & leisure, and education such as local history & genealogy.
