Public benefits
Mid Ulster Dementia Support Group directly benefits carers of people living with dementia by providing advice, support and assistance to help them care for their loved ones. This enables carers to cope with caring for their loved ones in the best way possible through increased knowledge and understanding of dementia, by providing them with the
tools to cope empathetically with the illness. The people who are cared for are benefited by being cared for by those who have knowledge, understanding and empathy. The benefit to society is that we provide a complementary service to the statutory provision at a community level that allows people with dementia to be living at home for as long as possible through care and support that is provided by supported carers. Carers are supported through dealing with the progressiveness of the illness of their loved ones. We can demonstrate that direct benefits exist through feedback provided by direct beneficiaries by way of written testimonies, group sessions or one to one communication. We don’t see any harms arising from the purposes, and if there were, the benefits would outweigh the risks. There may be some instances where people may receive a private benefit. For example, an individual may receive a small, incidental token/gift benefit, but the direct benefits outweigh the private benefits.
