Public benefits

The public benefit flowing from purpose (a) is that people from all ages and from all sections of the community have an opportunity to come together in a local venue to avail of classes and courses, public meetings and attend exhibitions. By doing this local people from the Sandholes area will improve their knowledge, will be able to participate

in the arts, will have an opportunity to come to a local venue to avail of such activities without having to travel long distances in an area not well served by public transport. People from both sides of the community will have an opportunity to come together, get to know each other better, build trust and mutual understanding. There is no private benefit from this purpose and no harm associated with it. The benefit will be measured by the numbers attending courses and classes. There will also be regular evaluations conducted at the end of each activity and regular small focus groups will be held to gauge what people think of what the group is currently doing and how it might improve activities in the future. The public benefit flowing from purpose (b) is that individuals and families from the Sandholes district will have several community venues where they can meet and congregate and have an opportunity to participate in a variety of recreational and leisure activities which otherwise would not be available to them. This in turn will encourage the community to come together to be more inclusive to discuss difficulties that may arise in their community and together find ways to solve them. The main benefit however, is that the group will be able to provide venues that individuals or families would not normally have access to. There is no private benefit from this purpose and no harm associated with it. This benefit will be measured by the number of events held in each venue, the numbers of people attending and the feedback that people give the group on the adequacy and suitability of the various venues. The group will seek to engage with the users of the venues to establish the benefits that local people are getting from their local venues. The public benefit flowing from purpose © is that the residents of Sandholes and surrounding district get a deeper understanding and awareness of the Ulster Scots identity. This identity is particular strong in the Sandholes district so people will be able to explore their history and culture and the spoken language itself by attending talks, and lectures. Musical evenings, cultural events associated with the Ulster Scots identity. Local people will be enriched by the experience; will improve their knowledge and understanding of who they are and where they have descended from. It will improve their education and their sense of identity within their own community. There is no private benefit flowing from this purpose and no harm. This benefit will be measured by ongoing evaluation of the activities promoted by the community group. There will be regular feedback sessions and evaluations of all associated activities. Participants will be encouraged to advise the group on the benefits that they have taken from each activity and suggest new activities annually.
