Public benefits

The purpose of Contemporary Christianity (Northern Ireland) Limited is to promote the Christian religion and in particular (but not exclusively) to bring biblical principles to bear on the outworking of faith in Northern Ireland. The benefits which flow from this purpose include challenging people of faith across Northern Ireland to think about

their faith and its implications in their communities. Contemporary Christianity provides a safe space for conversations which might be more difficult to organise on a church or denominational basis. Some of this work is done by the organisation and some is done by working in partnership with other organisations. Through this the local Christian Community can be challenged and encouraged to reflect theologically on real issues and review their lifestyle and practice. Issues considered have included human rights, sectarianism, faith and gender, faith and art, reconciliation, faith and economics, and history including Centenary celebrations. The benefits also include challenging a wide cross section of people of the Christian religion and beyond across N Ireland to think about and review their approach to real issues affecting their communities. Further benefits which flow from this purpose include the opening up of biblical ideas to the Christian community across N Ireland for them to consider in their local and wider contexts. These benefits are evidenced through opportunities to open up and consider contemporary real life issues which affect how people live out their faith in our divided communities. Benefits are further evidenced by engagement personally, through e-communications, and through a range of events, meetings and conversations organised to challenge lifestyle and citizenship The activities have included researching, writing and facilitating a Play -1912, A Hundred Years On – with discussion to help people of all ages from both Nationalist and Unionist perspectives to understand historical events and consider their implications in securing a better shared future Key publications have included the re-launch of For God and His Glory Alone , in 2013. This is achieved through public meetings, publications, visiting speakers (from N Ireland and beyond), arranging conversations around relevant issues for Christians across our communities, web based communications and responses. Providing this purpose does not lead to any harm. The beneficiaries of this purpose are primarily those involved in church and community relations across N Ireland who are willing to encourage engagement with these types of issues to enhance their citizenship.
