Public benefits
(1) The advancement of education The Ducales Capital Charitable Trust ('the Charity') has and will support students who are studying at local universities by providing scholarships, prizes and bursaries. The direct benefits that flow from this include the enhanced knowledge of students, increased access to education and higher standards in
education by rewarding achievement. The Charity will also support educational establishments in Northern Ireland by providing funding for capital projects, for example the maintentance and/or improvement works to buildings. The direct benefit which flows from this includes the enhancement of premises and facilities for students and the increased prestige of the educational establishment which has received the award resulting from the improvements. The benefits of this purpose will be demonstrated through feedback from recipients of awards, both individuals and organisations, and by the sense of pride felt by those who view the works carried out to buildings, both students/employees of the establishment and the wider local community. There is no private benefit to the trustees and it is anticipated that any potential private benefit in future would be wholly incidental. (2) The advancement of the arts, culture, heritage and science: The Charity will support artists who are studying and working in Northern Ireland, for example students and graudates of the art college in the University of Ulster, and those enrolled on courses in a scientific discipline, for example engineering students. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include the encouragement of artists and students of science in Northern Ireland. The wider benefit which flows from this purpose includes increased skills in the fields of arts and science in Northern Ireland. The benefits of this purpose will be demonstrated through feedback from recipients of awards and by the sense of inspiration felt by those appreciating the work of artists and students of science in the wider community. There is no private benefit to the trustees and it is anticipated that any potential private benefit in future would be wholly incidental. There is no ‘harm’ flowing from the purposes of Ducales Capital Charitable Trust of which the charity trustees are aware. For example, we can confirm that no salaries are paid by the charity nor are there any overheads resulting from the charitable work carried out. All work is carried out on an ex gratia basis.
