Public benefits
Purpose 1 The benefit which flows from this purpose is that the general public and, in particular, young people have increased knowledge and awareness of our environment, woodland, waterfowl and wildlife. It also increases their knowledge base in respect of the different species of trees, wildlife and waterfowl. The general public also gain a
better understanding of the impact and effect of non indigenous species of waterfowl and introduced wildlife have on our indigenous species. The benefits are demonstrated through both the increasing footfall and access by members of the public, community groups, school and crèche groups. In addition, feedback from all of these groups has indicated the positive impact that the experience has had both in their increased knowledge and awareness of the natural environment. School groups and teachers have also fed back information as to how this has contributed to and supported the work of the school curriculum. Purpose 2 The benefit which flows from this purpose is increased skills and knowledge of natural materials, waterfowl and wildlife art. Increased and enhanced awareness and knowledge of our local culture, mythology, history and sense of place. The benefits are demonstrated through both the increasing footfall and access by members of the public, community groups, school and crèche groups. In addition, feedback from all of these groups has indicated the positive impact that the experience has had both in their increased knowledge and awareness of the natural environment. School groups and teachers have also fed back information as to how this has contributed to the work of the school curriculum. We can also demonstrate this through the increased numbers and range of Volunteers who become involved in both these activities as well as other Voluntary work throughout the village. Purpose 3 The benefit which flows from this purpose is increased skills and knowledge in the management and husbandry of waterfowl. Raised awareness of the behaviour and specifics of various species of waterfowl. This can be demonstrated through the numbers of endangered species kept and protected and by the numbers released into the natural environment. The role that such species contribute to the bio diversity and eco structure within our environment. The second benefit is demonstrated by the good husbandry applied in the management of species and how this can be learnt by members of the public. The Trustees do not for see any potential harm. The benefit is for all the residents, visitors and tourists to the village of Broughshane as well as all the community groups, school groups and environmental groups from across Northern Ireland who use the facility. There is also a direct benefit through purpose 3 to Northern Ireland’s countryside and environment and heritage through the retention and introduction of native species which may otherwise become extinct. There is also the direct benefit to the animals themselves who would otherwise not exist in the wild. The only private benefit flowing from these purposes is to the Trustees through ongoing training in good governance, health and safety, land and animal management which allow the individual Trustees to gain additional skills which are transferable to other groups etc. These Benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.
