Public benefits
Purpose - To promote the benefit of the inhabitants of Killinchy Co Down and the neighbourhood without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or political, religious or other opinions, by associating together the said inhabitants and the local authorities, voluntary and other organisation in a common effort to advance education and to provide
facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants. The direct benefit which flows from this purpose includes improved social interaction for those residents who would otherwise be confined to their houses. The facility also provides an opportunity for those embarking on self-employment through holding fitness and recreational classes thereby supporting the enterprise initiatives in the area. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose also include social inclusion and a stronger community and improvement of facilities environment for the residents of Killinchy and District assisting them to collectively lobby for changes. Events also assist in developing more harmonious relationships between divided religious institutions. Some also aim to improve inter-cultural relationships between local residents and foreign nationals. These benefits are evidenced from feedback and the increase in numbers attending annual events such as Christmas carol singing. Improved health and fitness is evidenced through the numbers attending fitness classes. In providing fitness classes there is a risk of strain or minor injury, however this is rare, class instructors are checked for suitable insurance cover and it is believed the benefit outweighs the harm. In organising events there is a risk of harm or injury on the activities provided. However, appropriate risk assessments are carried out and it is considered that the benefit outweighs the harm. The beneficiaries are the residents of Killinchy and the outlying district. No private benefit, incidental or otherwise, is realised in the furtherment of this purpose.
