Public benefits

Operation Rescue (UK & Ireland) was set up to raise funds and channel support to the projects which are run by Operation Rescue, an indigenous NGO which seeks to help HIV/Aids orphans and street children and their families who are living in great poverty in the northern part of Tigray province in Ethiopia. Currently Operation Rescue runs three

community based day centres in Mekele, Adigrat and Adwa. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include: • The provision of a daily hot meal for the hundreds of children in the day centres run by the project. • The provision of health care for the children and their families • Access to showers and toilet facilities not available to the children at home. • Tutorial support for the children and the provision of school materials and school uniforms • Access to sporting and recreational facilities • Support for the families of the children through social workers employed by the project which may involve direct financial support. • Counselling and mentoring for the children/young people in the project until they are able to support themselves. • Vocational training for mothers/.carers of children in the project • Residential care in small units with a house mother/father for those children who do not have any family member to care for them • In summary, the benefits can be summed up as the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual development of the children to enable them to achieve their maximum potential. These benefits are evidenced through regular newsletters and through regular feedback visits to the project in Ethiopia which are self-financed by volunteers. The project in Ethiopia will continue to undergo regular government inspections, similar to that carried out in 2013 which led to high commendation for the project in a written report. There are no private benefits. There is no harm.
