Public benefits

The trustees believe that the organisation’s purposes satisfy the elements of the public benefit requirement falling under ‘the relief of poverty’ and the ‘advancement of education’ for our first purpose and ‘other charitable purposes’ for our second; The direct benefits which flow from the first purpose include the provision of benefits advice

to all unemployed clients which will increase their knowledge of the benefit system and any reforms thus ensuring all clients have access to benefits that they are entitled to, improvements in educational attainment among people who are unemployed in Strabane District Council area through training programmes. These will increase the opportunity for clients to gain work. Through this training, clients will also gain skills, confidence and a sense of achievement and increased social interaction amongst the beneficiaries by attending classes and having an opportunity of additional support networking with people who have similar experiences. The direct benefits flowing from the provision of recreational facilities includes an enhanced health among people suffering from the effects of unemployment as such persons are more inclined to suffer mental health issues. All of the above benefits can be demonstrated through feedback from clients and regular independent evaluation of our courses and services. There are no identified harms flowing from the purposes and neither are there any private benefits to any unintended beneficiaries. The beneficiaries are unemployed people from Strabane and District.

Charitable purposes

The company’s objects are to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of Strabane and District (hereinafter described as the “area of benefit”) without distinction of sex, race, political, religious or other opinion by associating the statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and the inhabitants in a common effort to advance education, job training, advisory services to the unemployed and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants.
