Public benefits

The trustees believe that our purposes satisfy the elements of the public benefit requirement: The direct benefits flowing from the purpose of facilities for research and development are to adapt the teaching and learning methods of Aikido to the needs and abilities of the beneficiaries. The direct benefits flowing from the purpose of promoting

Aikido and the physical health of the beneficiaries include improved health outcomes and reduced levels of stress and anxiety. The direct benefit flowing from the purpose of enabling beneficiaries to respond peacefully to conflict is an understanding by the beneficiaries how to respond to difficult and challenging situations without the need for violence. The direct benefits flowing from the purpose of promoting equality and diversity include the experience by the beneficiaries to interact harmoniously with people from all parts of the society through the practice of Aikido. These purposes do not give rise to any harm. The benefits are demonstrated through feedback from the beneficiaries (the practitioners of Aikido). The beneficiaries of this purpose are people living in Northern Ireland who are interested in learning and practicing a martial art taught by experienced teachers of Aikido. A private benefit to trustees may arise from teaching/practicing Aikido themselves. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.

What your organisation does

Belfast Aikido is a not-for-profit martial arts club that offers Aikido tuition in Belfast to everyone regardless of age, ability, race, ethnicity, religion, gender or sexuality. Our mission is to promote health and harmony in the community. Aikido is a non-competitive martial art which emphasises compassion and non-violent conflict resolution.

Aikido can improve but does not rely on strength, power or stamina and is therefore suitable for everyone regardless of age, ability or gender. This allows practitioners of all levels to work together thus engendering cooperation and compassion in training.
