Public benefits

Purpose 1: Improved relationships between home and school The benefit which flows from this purpose includes funding for additional resources for the school and links built with the local community. This is demonstrated through having an active PTA that works in partnership with the school and engages parental support. This purpose does not lead

to harm. The benefit is for children at Carrowreagh Primary School. Charity trustees (PTA committee members) are usually also parents at the school which their children attend and hence gain benefit in the same way as all other beneficiaries. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to all beneficiaries. Purpose 2: Advancing the education of pupils in the school The benefit which flows from this purpose includes increased educational progress and attainment of pupils in the school and links built with the local community. This is demonstrated through pupils having access to resources, events, activities and links with the local community which are not available through direct school funding. This purpose does not lead to harm.

What your organisation does

Our PTA is made up of a group of parents who are elected annually at our AGM. As an elected committee we aim to include all parents and staff in our planning and running of events and activities. We encourage parents to share ideas and help supervise at our events eg manning stalls at the summer fete or cooking the burgers at the BBQ, helping at

craft fair. We firmly believe that parents need to be kept informed on a regular basis. Newsletters are sent home frequently, informing them of money raised to date, future dates of events, staff/school wish list items, details of resources and equipment purchased and help or items required for the upcoming fundraiser. Flyers reminding parents and friends of the next event/activity are sent home a few days in advance and thank you letters and details of amounts raised are sent home as a follow up in the week after. Our PTA has a full school year agenda of fundraising/social events which are open to pupils, parents/guardians, family and the whole community. We advertise details of our fundraisers in the local press and in the local church announcements. In the past we have organised fireside quiz sheets, Christmas craft fairs, shopping bus trip (ideal for the local residents in our rural community), movie nights, non-uniform & “break the rules” days, the annual sponsored walk and to end the year a summer family fun night BBQ and pudding party. All these events are supported by local businesses for which we are very thankful. We also provide hospitality at open days, parent meetings and other times when requested by our Principal. Each year in September we ask the Principal and teaching staff to consider their wish list and strive in partnership with them to purchase the items/resources that will ensure the maximum benefit to all our pupils from Reception to Y7. Our sponsored even fundraiser every year funds the summer educational trips for all pupils at Carrowreagh Primary School.
