Public benefits

CRL's benefits to the wider public/ community are established through the companies articles/memorandum. These take place via a number of mediums/channels – * Through Training - providing the skills necessary for groups/individuals to gain new skills, thereby direct benefits which flow from this purpose would be better job prospects, greater

chance of promotion and increased job prospects for those unemployed - all of which would lead to a better lifestyle and help the local economy. * Through consultancy and advice by meeting other smaller groups and individuals who would like to make an improved difference in their community. The purpose of this is to empower other people/groups enabling them to have a vision/goal in their community. Direct benefits which flow from this purpose would be active citizenship/empowerment bringing about positive changes to the wider community. * Through Preservation of Buildings and or sites of historical/architectural importance - to date Castlewellan Regeneration Ltd have restored and brought back into use 3 buildings situated in the town of Castlewellan - Hillyard House the Corncrane Building and most recent The Lodge Business and Cultural Centre. The direct benefits from this purpose is the upkeep and restoration of these buildings has lead to a better community cohesion and a sense of pride in the Castelwellan area also direct benefits which flow from this purpose are employment, job opportunities and inward investment to the area, all of which again help the local economy. * Also we have been able to help with business start ups through the provision of low cost/reduced rent which have enabled new services to the area for example The Opticians which is based at the Lodge. The direct benefits from this purpose is that we have enabled a new service to come into the area as prior to this anyone wanting to avail of eye testing etc had to travel. * Through the provision of recreational facilities for the public at large - this is via the new performance hall which is located in the newly restored Lodge Building. Direct benefits which flow from this purpose is that all sections of the community and beyond can make use of the hall through concerts, plays, keep fit, it classes, play groups, training days, senior citizens club but to name a few. *Most importantly, it provides those who live in both rural and social isolation the opportunity to come together, this is most evident within the Tuesday Club as a lot of new friendships have been formed over the years - Direct Benefits which flow from this purpose include a reduction in rural and social isolation leading to a better quality of life and mental well being for all those attending. Thereby reducing the risk of depression and other associated illnesses. These benefits are demonstrated by feedback from people who attend our courses and venues. These are also demonstrated by feedback from funders. No harm flows from any of our purposes. The beneficiaries are the people of Castlewellan and visitors to the area. Any private benefit is purely incidental and comes directly from the carrying out of our purposes.

What your organisation does

Castlewellan Regeneration Ltd Mission Statement consists of the following:- ''Castlewellan Regeneration Ltd aim is to Regenerate the economic, environmental and social life of Castlewellan by encouraging statutory, voluntary and private bodies and individuals to invest their time and money in the town and district. By sharing and participating in

partnerships with others, Castlewellan Regeneration Ltd also endeavours to improve the fabric of the wider South East Down Region to the benefit of all its people.'' In the past CRL have been instrumential in obtaining grants to bring derelict buildings back into community usage for example Hillyard house, The Corncrane Building from which the doctors in Castlewellan now operate from and most recent and currently The Lodge Building from which CRL now operate from. CRL have over the past number of years carried out along with DDC a number of environmental improvement schemes throughout the town this ranged from footpaths to flowerbeds/shrubs and beyond. We have also carried out a spruce up project for the local traders and businesses - this was a painting scheme for buildings and signage thereby encouraging visitors to the area as well as making the area pleasing for those living in the area and district. Currently we are hoping to carry out a new round of the environmental improvement scheme which will offer a number of business and traders in the town the opportunity to give their properties a facelift, which hopefully will in this current economic climate, help to attract new and existing visitors to the town and area bringing in much needed revenue. CRL also runs a senior citizens club called the Tuesday Club we provide various activities and trips out for them, currently we would have 30 people attending the club. All who attend say that the club offers them a lifeline not only from the point of social but also rural isolation and firm friendships and wellbeing have been established as a result.
