Public benefits

The principal aim of Toome Amateur Boxing Club is to coach young people in the sport of boxing, to a standard that will allow them to compete in amateur competition while at the same time improving their overall fitness level. The benefits flowing from this purpose is to provide the opportunity for its members to compete at a high level in the

sport competing in Antrim, Ulster and All-Ireland competitions. Many of these boxers have also had the opportunity to travel to boxing competitions across the UK and Ireland as well as further afield to mainland Europe. Young boys and girls from the area have very little opportunity to be successful in an Olympic sport and Amateur boxing makes this possible for them. The Club is situated in the deprived area of Toomebridge. The club provides young boys and girls (aged 7 - 18) across the area an opportunity to train and stay healthy and develop their physical skills and provides young people from the area a place to go rather than loitering around street corners. The cross community nature of the club gives children from different areas and religious backgrounds the opportunity to get to know one another and to create friendships. Members of the club provide positive peer pressure to other members ensuring they continue with their training. The club is run entirely for public benefit to promote boxing as a sport to children and young people in the Toomebridge area. The above benefits are demonstrated through the improved health and fitness experienced by the club members. Boxing also helps to increase the mental sharpness of the children and young people who belong to the club. All of the clubs participants are amateur young people from the area. Toome Amateur Boxing Club is a cross community boxing club and is open to any young person regardless of their background, who is interesting in learning the sport. There is a risk of harm in partaking in a sport such as boxing, however, Toome Amateur Boxing Club has aimed from its inception to provide safe, quality equipment for use by its member for the purposes of Boxing and general fitness training. Care is taken at all times to ensure that safety measures are in place and that all equipment is used and in good working order. All coaches are trained and appropriate safety equipment is used at all times. Equipment is regularly checked to ensure that it is safe to use. A Child Protection Policy is in place to ensure the wellbeing and safety of the children taking part. There is no private benefit flowing from the purpose.
