Public benefits

The trustees believe that our purpose satisfies both elements of the public benefit requirement. The direct benefits which flow from our purpose is the financial contribution to charitable purposes as defined under NI law. All grants will be assessed prior to being awarded, to ensure this purpose is fulfilled, and also to ensure that the benefits

outweigh any potential harm. The ultimate beneficiaries will usually be the general public, and while specific grants may be more limited in scope, they will be assessed to ensure that the public benefit requirement is fulfilled. The only private benefit flowing from our purpose is training of and experience gained by the trustees and this is incidental and necessary to ensure good governance of the charity. Examples of charities we support are NI Hospice, McMillan Cancer Fund, Christian Guidelines, Operation Mobilisation, Concern, and TEAR Fund. Having satisfied ourselves that the recipient charities are charitable under NI law, we usually allow the charity to decide where best to use the funds, and their beneficiaries are our ultimate beneficiaries.
