Public benefits

The direct benefits that flow from purpose 1 includes the general public being better educated in astronomy. These benefits are demonstrated through numbers attending our group, feedback from those attending lectures and feedback from scouting groups, church groups and the general public. The direct benefits that flow from purpose 2 includes

education in light pollution and a awareness of the effects of light pollution leading to a better understanding of the issues involved. These benefits are demonstrated by the numbers attending observing nights and lectures. The direct benefit that flows from purpose 3 includes the advancement of astronomy leading to improved techniques and shared learning of advances in amateur astronomy. These benefits are demonstrated through the number of members attending the group. There is no harm flowing from any of our purposes and no private benefit. The beneficiaries are the general public and those with an interest in amateur astronomy.

What your organisation does

The Northern Ireland Amateur Astronomy Society meets once a month in Ballyclare High School and holds a series of lectures on a variety of astronomic and scientific subjects. All lectures are open to members and public alike. The society also organises observing nights and partakes in outreach activities involving schools and churches.
