Public benefits

Purpose 1: To advance education for the public benefit through the provision of classes, courses, lectures and other educational events. The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include the sustainment of, and increases in, individuals’ knowledge and understanding, skills and expertise which are useful as part of a person’s total education,

the provision of ‘lifelong learning’, improved access to educational resources and better links with educational authorities. These benefits can be evidenced by feedback from, and increasing numbers of, beneficiaries who attend and enjoy the services and facilities provided as well as our improving links with educational authorities which testifies to the educational value provided. Purpose 2: To advance the arts, culture, heritage and science for the public benefit by encouraging public interest in the Irish Language and all or any of the cultural traditions of the region in and around Pomeroy The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include improved access for locals and the wider public to exhibitions, workshops, lectures, literature, language summer schools etc which leads to the encouragement and appreciation of higher standards in the arts, local and national culture and the Irish language. Further benefits include the preservation of cultural traditions and improved opportunities for amateur and professional artists to flourish. These benefits can be evidenced by feedback from, and increasing numbers of, beneficiaries who attend and enjoy the services and facilities provided. Purpose 3: To advance citizenship and community development through the provision of facilities and services for the use and benefit of the general public but in particular the local community The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include progression and developments in visual, economic and social aspects of our locality, improved ‘shared spaces’ and facilities. The results of these improvements include, for example, better social cohesion and relations, reductions in conflict enhancements in community resources, tolerance and mutual respect or diverse beliefs and viewpoints etc. These benefits can be evidenced by feedback from local beneficiaries, measurable improvements in the community’s facilities and the overall quality and standard of living in the area. Purpose 4: To advance health and well-being for the benefit of the public and in particular local community through the provision of health-based educational events or talks from medical professionals and agencies The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include improved lifestyles and quality of health amongst the beneficiaries, greater access and links to health-based information and advice from medical practitioners as well as improved understanding of mental-health, suicide, drug and alcohol awareness, dementia, the heart and many other issues; greater knowledge of these matters has knock-on effects such as reducing social isolation by understanding the issues of others. These benefits can be evidenced through feedback from the beneficiaries who detail that being armed with knowledge of health-related issues allows them to improve the overall quality of their lives as well as our improving links with relevant authorities which testifies to the value provided. There are no private benefits arising out of the purposes and neither is there any harm which would not be outweighed by the benefits. The beneficiaries are the public at large and, in particular, the residents of the Pomeroy area.
