Access to information

The public can request information from public bodies, including the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland, under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the Environmental Information Regulations 2004.

Data protection legislation, specifically (the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018),  sets out how organisations must handle your personal information.

Our Access to Information guidance (linked at the side) explains how to request information from the Commission using the form below. Please use this form for all information requests, including requests for any personal data we may hold about you.

You may not need to make a formal request - some information is already available on the register of charities or through our Publication scheme (available in the sidebar), which lists what we routinely publish. This includes:

  • classes of information which the Commission publishes or intends to publish.
  • the way in which information within each class is, or is intended to be, published.
  • whether the material is, or is intended to be, available free of charge or on payment.

We can also answer some questions directly by email. Please submit your questions via our Contact us section.

If you need information in another format, we will consider this under our Equality Scheme.

For more on information rights, you can visit the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) website. The ICO is the UK’s independent body that promotes good practice, handles complaints and ensures information laws are followed.
