Statutory inquiry update
In June 2017, the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland opened an inquiry into registered Northern Ireland charity, Growth for Adolescents and Providing Support (NIC103493).
This inquiry was extended in September 2017 to include the charitable company Growth for Adolescents & Providing Support (company number NI606227).
The purpose of the inquiry is to investigate a number of serious concerns relating to the control of finance and governance.
As part of the ongoing investigation, the Commission has issued an order to remove Mr Damien Harte as a charity trustee with immediate effect, due to mismanagement and misconduct.
The Commission has also appointed, by order, Deloitte (NI) Limited as interim manager of the charity as a temporary and protective measure. Deloitte (NI) Limited will act as manager in respect of the property and affairs of the charity.
The Commission is aware that the Interim Manager has taken steps to close a number of local facilities which were being managed by the charity. This action has been taken while the Interim Manager considers the financial viability of the charity to continue to operate and manage the facilities.
As the inquiry into Growth for Adolescents and Providing Support remains live, the Commission is not currently in a position to go into further detail on this matter.
The Charity Commission for Northern Ireland is the independent regulator of charities in Northern Ireland.
The statutory inquiry into Growth for Adolescents and Providing Support was instituted under section 22 of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008.
In accordance with normal procedures, a report on the results of a statutory inquiry will be published on the Commission’s website after the inquiry is completed.
