FightED advances the education and promotes awareness amongst statutory agencies, carers and healthcare providers in relation to the New Maudley model – a clinically effective intervention which improves and promotes the management, care and recovery of those undergoing or experiencing treatment for anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and other
eating disorders. The purpose of the Charity is to relieve sickness and suffering and protect and preserve the mental and physical health of people who are suffering from eating disorders. The direct benefits that flow from this purpose are the resultant improvement to the health of persons suffering from eating disorders, and less deaths and distress relating to this medical condition. Less people suffering from the condition needing to receive long stay in-patient care in hospitals and mental health facilities. The benefits are demonstrated by the positive feedback received and outcomes reported by our beneficiaries, their families and health care professionals in terms of the improved health of beneficiaries and reductions in hospital admissions. The evaluation and accreditation of our services received by external agencies. For example, our training for GPs and other health care professionals is quality assured by the National Counselling Society. There is no harm. This is a clinically proven method. The beneficiaries are people with eating disorders and their families within Northern Ireland. The purpose of the Charity is to relieve the suffering of people with eating disorders, their families and carers. The direct benefits that flow from this purpose are the enhanced skills and capacities for families and carers to cope with this distressing condition and support loved one suffering from eating disorders. Less people suffering from the condition needing to receive long stay in patient care in hospitals and mental health facilities often far away from their families causing additional distress and suffering. The benefits are demonstrated by the positive feedback and outcomes reported by beneficiaries, their families and health care professionals in terms of the improved health of beneficiaries and reductions in hospital admissions etc. There is no harm from this purpose. The beneficiaries are people suffering from eating disorders, their families and carers. Private benefit: The Company may in the future employ staff or use professional services of medically qualified individuals and may pay individuals to deliver workshops and other aspects of the charity’s services. The employment of staff will however be necessary to the delivery of the services and is an incidental consequence of the charitable activities of the company. Staff will be managed by and accountable to the Board of Trustees. It is likely that one member of the board in particular will be paid for services; she is a qualified psychologist, with personal experience of an eating disorder and one of the very few, if any other Northern Ireland practitioners with a practical understanding of the New Maudley method. If a trustee is employed or provide services to the charity in exchange for payment, the conflict of interest will be managed appropriately, and in accordance with the powers within the company’s articles; the affected trustee or trustees will not be involved in the decision and their services will only be solicited by the unconflicted trustees where the arrangements are considered in the best interests of the charity.

FightED will train facilitators in The New Maudley Method (both professionals and people with personal experience of caring for loved ones with eating disorders) to provide workshops throughout NI, a 2 day course will be run around the various regions of Northern Ireland, followed up by monthly workshops where carers can top up their skills and
seek advice and reassurance. We are fortunate to have families working with us who have been through this truly life saving method and are passionate about sharing their experiences and skills with others. Our aim is to empower families with the necessary skills to cope with someone with an eating disorder, thus avoiding lengthy hospital admissions and the associated distress this can cause.
