Public benefits

Purpose 1: Improved relationships between home and school The benefit which flows from this purpose includes funding for additional resources for the school and links built with the local community. This is demonstrated through having an active PTA that works in partnership with the school and engages parental support. This purpose does not lead

to harm. The benefit is for children at Londonderry Primary School. Charity trustees (PTA committee members) are usually also parents at the school which their children attend and hence gain benefit in the same way as all other beneficiaries. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to all beneficiaries. Purpose 2: Advancing the education of pupils in the school The benefit which flows from this purpose includes increased educational progress and attainment of pupils in the school and links built with the local community. This is demonstrated through pupils having access to resources, events, activities and links with the local community which are not available through direct school funding. This purpose does not lead to harm.

What your organisation does

We are an active PTA which organises Social Fundraising events for the families and children of the school and we actively volunteer for the school regularly; such as helping at seasonal fairs/fetes, School Outings, Parent Information Sessions and providing refreshments at other events. We organise & volunteer at the regular events held each year

to assist with Social Fundraising throughout the school, together with any other events or matters to which we can support the school and the families of the pupils within the school. All our events raise funds but are also open to visitors regardless of gifts given. An important part of our role is promoting social inclusion, community relations and providing a less formal communication channel between the parent body and the school. We do this by seeking regular feedback on events and operation, looking for parental / staff skills to aid run and help at events. We believe that good communication is the key and as such we publish regular newsletters/updates to ensure parents are kept informed. Out PTA is made up of a group of elected parents and staff. As a group we strive to ensure that all parents and staff are actively involved in our operation and are invited to share their skills and help at our events. We run a programme of events throughout the school year, which are available to pupils, their families and friends and the wider community. These include family and children only events, examples of these last year were the Boys’/Girls’ night and Super Saturdays. In close consultation with the Principal & Teachers we agree to fund a range of items and services that directly benefit the school and the children. In recent years we have bought spelling & challenge materials, items for Stem Trail project and iPads and cases for the kids. Alongside the school we agree the expenditure of funds in that they will always be used to purchase educational resources/equipment for all the pupils in the school.
