Public benefits
Our objectives are the relief of poverty of widows of freemasons and or relatives of freemasons and freemasons who are experiencing financial hardship. To also provide financial assistance to other charitable purposes as defined in the Charities Act ( Northern Ireland ) 2008. The Direct Benefit is less stress to the individual and improved
mental and physical wellbeing. These benefits are demonstrated through feedback from our beneficiaries. There is no harm caused by any of the services provided. There are no private benefits flowing from the purposes. The beneficiaries are widows of freemasons, freemasons and relatives of freemasons and the general public.

The 44 units within our district forward to us the charitable donations from their various meetings and events. This is collated along with the relevant paperwork. Members when making donations may indicate which specific charity they wish to support. For all unallocated donations the Committee agrees a percentage split to ensure each fund is
supported fairly. The Treasurer will then direct the funds accordingly. This allocation will also include Gift Aid received from HMRC in response to a claim submitted by our Gift Aid Secretary. He will ensure the correct documentation is in place to support such claims. We support the units to hold any additional fund raising events they wish eg breakfasts and raffles. In the past year some individual units through organising; table quiz, cycle ride, Ulster Scots Night raised funds and supported the Red Cross, TLC, an Epilepsy charity, bought two defibrillators for public use in Broughshane and Glenarm villages and donated to Good Morning Ballymena a local organisation supporting those with difficulty. We offer advice and support to our unit representatives on completion of application forms, visiting of applicants, how to identify need and offer best support and on best practice on support generally. Guest speakers attend meetings to help keep us up to date on current legislation so we are more able to offer appropriate assistance.
