Public benefits

Purpose: The Relief of Poverty The direct benefits which flow from the above purpose include fewer Cambodian children working on the streets in order to support their families. M’Lop Tapang’s Outreach Team works with families, helping them start small businesses such as farming projects, small shops, laundry and sewing services. This decreases

the need for children to work. Being able to provide for themselves also leads to increased self-esteem, increased economic security, improved living conditions and health status. Mlop Tapang's work also reduces the risk of families sliding further into poverty in times of crisis. Many families struggle from day to day and even the smallest unexpected problem can drive them deeper into poverty and debt. MT provides poor families with support during times of crisis eg. food, clothing, house repairs. The benefits will be evidenced through the number of families helped e.g. in 2013, M’Lop Tapang provided 628 families with emergency support, helped to repair more than 40 houses in slum neighbourhoods and assisted 49 families with small business set ups. There is no harm or possibility of harm with this benefit. The charity’s beneficiaries are impoverished children and families living in the Sihanoukville, Cambodia area. The only private benefit flowing from this purpose is to local businesses from which M’Lop Tapang purchases materials (eg. house repair supplies). This is incidental and a necessary result of carrying out the purposes. M’Lop Tapang maintains a strict conflict of interest policy and no employees shall own or benefit from businesses that the organization does business with. Purpose: The protection and preservation of the health of children living in Sihanoukville, Cambodia The direct benefits which flow from the above purpose include children becoming well as a result of receiving free medical care through services provided at M’Lop Tapang’s Medical Clinic as well as through community visits by the M’Lop Tapang health workers. At risk infants and toddlers grow up healthy through the activities of M’Lop Tapang’s Baby Care Program which targets malnourished and neglected children under the age of 5 years. MT's projects lead to improved public understanding and prevention of the childhood diseases most common in Cambodia (eg. diarrhea, dengue hemorrhagic fever, malaria and malnutrition). These benefits will be evidenced through the number of health treatments provided e.g. in 2013 M'Lop Tapang treated 1,340 children and 670 adults in the Medical Centre as well as over 1000 children through medical outreach trips. There is no harm or possibility of harm related to this purpose. The charity’s beneficiaries are impoverished children and families living in the Sihanoukville, Cambodia area. There is no private benefit related to this purpose. Purpose: The advancement of education. The direct benefits which flow from the above purpose include increased numbers of disadvantaged children attending school. M’Lop Tapang provides classroom learning in a variety of settings including providing “bridging” programmes for children that have never attended school before, supporting children to attend local public schools, providing special needs classes and also distance education in remote villages and at slum based community centres. MT provides increased access for disadvantaged youth to attend vocational training programs. These benefits will be evidenced through the number of children and youth attending education programs e.g. in 2013 421 children attended the bridging programme, over 1000 children were supported to attend local public schools, 215 students benefited from distance education and 442 attended classes at community centres. There is no harm or possibility of harm related to this purpose. The charity’s beneficiaries are disadvantaged children and youth living in the Sihanoukville, Cambodia area. There is no private benefit related to this purpose.

What your organisation does

M'Lop Tapang NI supports the work carried out by M'Lop Tapang in Cambodia by raising awareness and raising funds in the UK. M'lop Tapang has been working with the street children of Sihanoukville since 2003. They currently work with over 1200 families and over 3500 children at ten specialized centers in the Sihanoukville area providing shelter,

medical care, sports and arts, education and training, counselling, family support and protection from all types of abuse. M'Lop Tapang NI exists to allow supporters in the UK to raise funds here and to facilitate the sending of those funds to M'Lop Tapang in Cambodia as and when the need arises. It allows UK citizens to make tax efficient donations and reduces, for supporters, the costs of transferring monies overseas. Finally, MT NI endeavours to promote and raise awareness of the work carried out in Sihanoukville and to encourage and facilitate the sending of appropriate and useful volunteers to work with M'Lop Tapang in Cambodia itself.
